Parenting Resources

"Whether you are in those primary years of your parenting journey or protecting every moment of together-time as a parent with children prepping for that next stage of life, I hope you will check out these resources made available through the school's Axis subscription . The Lord's wisdom and the insights of experts who work with students like ours are what we desire to share with you."
--Rick Kempton, AACS Superintendent

Cling to wisdom—she will protect you.
Love her—she will guard you.
Getting wisdom is the most important thing you can do!
And with your wisdom, develop common sense and good judgment.

--Proverbs 4:6-7, Living Bible (TLB)

FOTF: Plugged In Parent's Guide to Today's Technology

"As Christians, I think it’s easy for us to drift passively, almost unconsciously, into something I’ve dubbed Neutral Zone thinking when it comes to the bombardment of media and technology we face today. We know the big things that we want to help our kids avoid: pornography, graphically violent and sexual entertainment, etc. We recognize that these things are at war with the convictions we hold as Christ followers. But when it comes to lots of the other “little” things, well, we can almost unconsciously tend to treat them as if they’re neutral, when in fact they might very well be communicating—albeit more subtly—messages and worldviews that are very much at odds with our Christian faith.

Still, we must begin with a spiritual foundation. Helping our children use technology (and the media that streams through it) wisely involves more than screen-time limits or filtering programs that limit our exposure (as important as those concrete tools might be). It also involves helping them to grow in spiritual discernment, discipline and character, so that they will increasingly be able to practice Paul’s counsel in Philippians 4:8: 'Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable—if there is any moral excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy—dwell on these things' ” (CSB). Axis Resource: Family Night

Whether you’re on family vacation or having dinner together, time with family can be uproariously fun or full of stress, crankiness, and conflict. No matter how hard it gets to find time to spend together (or to get along while you’re together), family night is something to fight for! Trust us—you won’t regret it. -Axis introduction

Axis Resource: Smartphones

How do I prepare my child for smartphone use? When do I purchase a smartphone for them? How have smartphones and other digital devices impacted our churches? How do I monitor and limit my child's access to content in a God-honoring way. What other resources should I be reading as a Christian parent?

Axis Resource: Civility

Our world seems to be filled with vitriol, division, and echo chambers. But God calls us to kindness, compassion, understanding, and grace. So how can we learn to disagree kindly and be civil in all we do? And how can we teach our kids to do the same, especially online?

Axis Resource: Social Media Conversation

Axis Ministries presents Social Media, a four-part series about what many believe is the most socially transformational invention in history. The next handful of minutes will bless you and your family with a deeper understanding of how social media impacts our relationship with the Lord,  distorts our view of reality, and marginalizes face-to face interactions. If the benefits outweigh the drawbacks, then what does the Lord have for us as we face the challenges of keeping ourselves and our kids safe online?
