Spring Fling 2023
Spring Fling is back on. This is a trip for 8th – 12th grade students over Spring Break. For many former students this trip was mentioned as on of their favorite memories of being at AACS if not their top memory. We go to a Young Life Camp in Virginia for 4 days. We play together, worship together, eat together, … It is a blast!!! For more information about trip details and to register, go to the link HERE. To read testimonials about the trip from former students and staff go to the link HERE. We are so excited to be able to once again offer this amazing trip to our students. If you have any questions email Mr. Brophy at pbrophy@aacsonline.org . We will also need many parent volunteers; please reach out to Mr. Brophy if you are interested.
Hispanic and Native American Heritage Celebration
Here at AACS we always want to strive to exalt Christ in everything that we do. Through the power of the gospel, God brings people together from every tribe, tongue and nation who, with one voice, praise the Lord Jesus Christ. Even though cultural distinctions dissolve as God’s people become one in Christ, the Lord is glorified when we celebrate His creativity seen in culture (Colossians 3:11).
Over the past few months, we’ve celebrated the glory of God on display in Hispanic & Native American culture.
For Hispanic Heritage Month:
-
In 8th Grade Language Arts, students read the story “Who Are You Today, Maria?” by Judith Ortiz and answered questions about it.
-
Fun Facts about Hispanic culture were shared during morning announcements.
-
In Spanish class, students learned about school in different Hispanic countries.
-
In Art, students made paintings using the art style of Romero Britto.
For Native American Heritage Month:
-
In 8th Grade Language Arts, students read “The Medicine Bag''. This story is about a boy embracing his Native American Heritage. The students then launched into an oral history project as an extension of that story. Mrs. Smith also plays Native American in her classroom.
-
In Art, 8th graders made yarn coil baskets based on the techniques used by the Hopi Indians.
Sports Pictures
Below is the access information for families to view and order sports and event images:

Inclement Weather and Virtual Days
Per AACS inclement weather policy after two snow days, we will run a virtual school day. Students will be required to use Google Meet to attend virtual classes from 9 am - 2 pm. Students will access all of their Google Meetings via Google Classroom. We will be reviewing how to access Google Meet, schedule, and guidelines with students, but we wanted to make sure you were aware as well.

8:15 Start of Classes
3:00 Dismissal
3:30 - 6 pm Supervised Study Time for Middle School (fee)
Water Bottles
We have transitioned from water fountains to water bottle filling stations. Please remember to send a reusable water bottle with your student every day. If they do not have a water bottle, they are able to purchase one in the office for $1. It is a great idea to have several back-up bottles in their locker. Our goal is not to sell the water bottles but to train the students to have a reusable bottle.
Middle School Chapel
Chapel will be at 2:20 pm on Thursday. Students will meet in the gym for worship and a message. Parents are welcome to attend.
Attendance Reminder
Don't forget to call the MS office (410-519-5300) before 9 a.m. if your son or daughter is absent. Please send a note to the office if you know about an absence in advance. Please check Veracross for assignments for when a student is absent. The morning of the third day that your child is absent, you may call the middle school office and request homework.
Tardy Students
- Students are expected to arrive by 8:05 a.m. to allow ample time to organize materials and be in class on time.
- Arrival after 8:15 AM is considered a tardy. In order for a tardy to be logged in as excused, the student must have a note from a parent or be signed-in by a parent in the office and have a legitimate excused tardy.
- Examples of excused tardies can be a doctor’s appointment, traffic accidents, car trouble, bad weather or other unavoidable situations.
- The school urges parents and students to be punctual. Admittance to class after 8:15 AM is only with a “Pass” from the office.
Email Address
Parents can update their email address as well as other information in the Veracross system. Please make sure that all phone numbers and your current email address is always in Veracross because we use this to communicate reminders and announcements.
Drop-Off Procedures
After entering the driveway stay in the right lane past the first entrance to the parking lot. Please do not turn left into that first entrance. Please pull as far forward as you can before dropping off your students. A staff member will meet you to ask screening questions and take student temperatures.
**The busses will exit the property via one of the entry lanes and have the right of way when exiting. Please make way for them in that situation. **
Pick-Up Procedures
Please be prompt to pick up students as soon after dismissal as possible. Dismissal is at 3:00. When picking up please park in the parking lot and wait for your child. Do not park in the driveways leading to the parking lot, and do not park in the driveway leading to the gym area since that is a fire lane.
Only a right turn is allowed when exiting the parking lot after the morning drop off and after the afternoon pick-up.
All children who stay after school must be under the direct supervision of a coach, teacher, activity supervisor, or parent. Student’s who are on campus after 3:30 and are not supervised or are not waiting for the bus will be required to go to a supervised study hall for which parents will be charged a fee. Students wishing to stay for a game must have parental supervision on campus.
Students will not be allowed by the school to walk to WaWa or 7Eleven before school, during the school day, or after school while under our supervision. Our supervision begins when a student is dropped off on campus. It would be helpful if parents implemented the same restrictions.
Early Dismissal
Students who have dentist or doctor appointments during the day must bring a note to the teacher from whose class they will leave. Parents can wait in the office for their child. Don’t forget to sign-out!
Parent Conferences
When parents wish to confer with their child’s teacher or the administrators, the parents may call the Middle School Office (410-519-5300) to make an appointment. We ask that parents not call teachers at home or seek out teachers during the school day unless the parent has an appointment.
Student Planner
All students are given an AACS planner. If they lose it, they will have to purchase one for $8.00.
Emergency Forms
All families must create a family ID account and complete our online Emergency form using the AACS Family ID Portal. This is due before school starts and can be found by clicking the forms bar below.
Health Concerns
If your child has any health concerns that we should be aware of please send a written note stating the condition and any medications your child is taking at home and school. This request is for old and new students. It is especially important to let us know if your child has any allergies, needs Benadryl and/or an epi-pen.
Please have a back-up plan in case of illness so that a sick child can be picked up immediately. The school does not have adequate facilities for holding sick children for more than a short time.
Illness Policy:
Although no comprehensive list is possible, the following conditions may be considered appropriate reasons to send a student home from school:
❖ Vomit/nausea
❖ Loose runny stools/diarrhea
❖ Temperature 100 ̊ or above with or without symptoms ❖ Undiagnosed rash
❖ Head lice
❖ Suspected communicable disease
❖ Red, draining eyes
❖ Persistent runny nose with yellow/green discharge
❖ Persistent productive cough
❖ Severe pain
❖ Chest pain
❖ Suspected fracture
❖ Head injury with symptoms
Students should NOT return to school until they are symptom-free for 24 hours without medication.
Medications
Please remember, all medication, both prescription and over the counter, require a physician’s order. This includes Tylenol and cough drops.
Immunization Requirements
All students in grades Pre K through 9 must provide proof that they have received the following immunizations:
- The hepatitis B vaccine series consists of 3 doses spaced out over approximately 6 months.
- Age-appropriate vaccination with varicella (chickenpox) vaccine is now required. Students 13 years and older receiving varicella vaccine for the first time must receive two doses of vaccine separated by at least 28 days.
Sports Physicals
Make plans to schedule a physical examination for your athletes this summer. These physicals are required to play in Middle School athletics. The physical forms are available on the AACS Eagles athletics website. If your student plans to participate on an after-school athletic team, please submit your child's current physical via FamilyID and complete the MS athletics registration form when FamilyID for MS athletics opens later this month.
Lockers
Lockers will be used similarly to a coat-hook where students would only be able to go to them at the beginning of the day, before and after lunch, and at the end of the day under the supervision of a teacher. We are not having students bring locks and treating the lockers as a coat-hook style storage space and discouraging students from putting any other valuables in that space.
Middle School Extracurricular Eligibility Policy
Starting the third week of the quarter, students' grades will be evaluated to determine if they are eligible to participate in extracurricular activities. The detailed policy for being eligible to participate can be found in the Middle School Handbook. https://www.aacsonline.org/
Briefly, any student with an academic grade below 70% is put "on probation" for two weeks, during which time he/she may participate fully (practice sport or drama, play in athletic games.) However, the student is expected to correct any grade issues during that time period. If a student still has an academic grade below 70% after two weeks, he/she becomes ineligible to play in games or participate in extracurricular activities. Mrs. Rimando will notify coaches, students, and parents if a student is put on probation or becomes ineligible. Please contact Mrs. Rimando with any questions. (X2125 or lrimando@aacsonline.org)
After School
Students Staying to watch games after school must be with a parent or in aftercare.
