Join us for an inspiring and unforgettable week of music at this year’s Naptown Jazz Kids Summer Jazz Camp, hosted at Annapolis Area Christian School! Designed for middle and high school instrumentalists, this immersive camp gives students the opportunity to grow as musicians while experiencing the excitement and creativity of jazz.

Throughout the week, campers will participate in engaging classes focused on jazz improvisation, listening skills, jazz history, and musical appreciation, while working closely with experienced professional musicians and educators. Students will rehearse and perform in both big band and small combo settings, helping them develop essential ensemble skills, confidence, and musical expression.

Each day is packed with meaningful musical experiences—sectionals, improvisation workshops, rhythm training, and full ensemble rehearsals—all designed to help students deepen their understanding of jazz while having fun and making new friends who share their passion for music.

The camp culminates in a truly special final day in Washington, D.C. Campers will travel to the National Museum of American History at the Smithsonian Institution, where they will:

  • Take part in a behind-the-scenes exploration of the museum’s jazz collections

  • See rare historic instruments and artifacts up close with museum staff

  • Learn about the artists and innovations that shaped America’s jazz legacy

  • Perform their final concert on the same stage used by the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra

This extraordinary experience connects students directly with the history of America’s great musical art form while giving them a memorable performance opportunity in one of the nation’s most iconic museums.

Prerequisite:

Students should be able to read music notation and be currently studying an instrument privately or participating in their school’s music program. The camp is designed for students with some prior musical experience who are ready to grow their skills in a supportive and engaging environment.

Whether your student is just beginning their jazz journey or already performing in school ensembles, this camp offers a supportive, challenging, and exciting environment that encourages musical growth, creativity, and teamwork.
