Environmental Outdoor Sculpture

by Middle School Art Teacher Karen Luttrell

Students created sculptures using only natural elements. By engaging with nature, students connect to the beauty, faithfulness, and power of God in his gift of Creation. Having middle school-aged children myself, I know most children are experiencing a lot of emotions due to COVID-19. It is my hope that visual art assignments help them process and cope with their feelings and provide a constructive outlet for creative expression. As you look through the slides, I invite you to reflect on this passage from Luke 12:27-28 "Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass, which is alive in the field today, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith!"
