Track coach awarded IAAM Coach of the Year 2025
Susan Hall

AACS Teacher and Coach, Mrs. Madelyn Smith, was named IAAM 2025 Track and Field Coach of the Year.

Congratulations go to Coach Madelyn Smith, who has run the AACS Track & Field program for seven years, competing for the last six years in the MIAA and IAAM conferences. The team has consistently performed at a high level, and athletes take pride in representing the school with excellence. Two years ago, boys’ and girls’ teams broke conference records in the 4x100-meter relay—a testament to the dedication and talent within our program.

Her journey in Track & Field began in Michigan, where she was named to all-city and all-state teams. Competing at the Junior Olympics in the high jump, the 100m, and the 200m,  she discovered the value of perseverance and discipline.

In addition to coaching, she teaches Foundations of Technology and several advanced Engineering classes at AACS. She also leads the Robotics program.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from Tuskegee University and an MBA from the New York Institute of Technology.

Check out the 2025 summer schedule below to see when your team has their strength and conditioning session and sport training session. We strongly encourage all of our rising 9th- 12th-grade student-athletes who are interested in trying out for a sport to participate in these sessions this summer. Multi-sport athletes should attend the strength and conditioning session for whichever sport starts first for them. Student-athletes may attend multiple sports training sessions, but only the S&C sessions for a single sport.

In order to participate in summer training, you must be registered on Magnus Health for your sport(s) with an up-to-date physical attached to your registration.

Varsity Golf Is Championship Bound After 11.5-9.5 Upset Over Jemicy
Amy Sproul

As a 4th seed in the MIAA C Conference golf playoffs, AACS traveled to Greenspring Valley Golf Club on Wednesday, May 14, to face #1 seeded Jemicy. The Eagles lost to Jemicy earlier in the season, but came out victorious in the semifinals with an 11.5-9.5 win.

Collin Powell and Gavin Gregg set the tone playing in the first group and won and tied the front respectively. Jack Thompson also won the front. Josef Hubrich and Kyle Halpern looked to earn points on the front but fell on the final hole, losing 1 down. Lance Overstreet secured a point, sweeping all 4 holes on the front, giving the team a 3.5 to 2.5 lead at the midpoint.

Powell and Thompson continued to build their overall leads and earned 3 points by winning the back set of holes, securing a point and another point for overall wins. Overstreet hung tough and tied the back and won the overall, getting 2.5 points. Gregg, Hubrich, and Halpern contributed a few holes to help their groups win or tie the team point, securing an extra 2.5 points to the team total and earning the team a win overall.

The championship match is set for Monday, May 19, at 3:00 PM at Worthington Manor Golf Club (8329 Fingerboard Rd, Urbana, MD).

Two More Athletes Sign To Play In College
Amy Sproul

We are excited to celebrate with two more of our student athletes who have signed to play their sport in college.  Julian Kelly has signed to play basketball at Glenville State while Javi Flores has signed to play soccer at Randolph College.

Head Athletic Director Josiah Wolf said, "Even though we only had a short time with both Julian and Javi, their impact on our community and athletic programs will last for years. I know their character, skill, and work ethic will make a big difference as they move on to play in college.  I could not be more excited for them to take this next step and shine their lights on their college campuses over the next four years."
