Middle School Play

MS play

The Annapolis Area Christian School Middle School proudly presents their fall play, A Tree As High As the  Ceiling. Set in the mid-1800s in the heart of the American Midwest, A Tree As High as the Ceiling tells the touching story of three families whose lives intertwine in unexpected ways.

At the center are the six Wakefield children, ages four through eighteen, who have endured the tragic loss of their parents to a plague just months earlier. Though their days are filled with hardship, the strength and faith instilled by their loving parents continue to guide them.

When their wealthy Uncle John, Aunt Lydia, and cousin Elizabeth travel from Boston to “check on” the children, worlds collide. Aunt Lydia and Elizabeth—accustomed to comfort and refinement—are appalled by the idea of a visit to a simple country farm and long to return home to their grand Christmas celebrations. But Uncle John insists on staying until he’s sure the children are truly thriving—and even proposes bringing them all back to Boston, to the horror of his wife and daughter.

What follows is a heartwarming and humorous journey of faith, family, and belonging. Through tender moments and lighthearted exchanges (including one involving a pet rooster named Oscar), the story builds toward a moving decision: will the children remain on the farm that has shaped them, or begin a new life in the city? In the end, young Jenny, the youngest Wakefield, offers a surprising bit of wisdom that touches everyone’s hearts.
