Military Families

Blue Star Families was founded by military family members in 2009 to empower these families to thrive as they serve. They are committed to strengthening military families by connecting them with their neighbors – individuals and organizations – to create vibrant communities of mutual support. 

The Folds of Honor Children's Fund Scholarship was established to provide primary and secondary scholarship assistance for military families with children in K-12th grade. 

The Folds of Honor Children's Fund Scholarship is not directly connected to AACS in any way. Families interested in applying must apply directly to Folds of Honor and may start the application on February 1 at https://foldsofhonor.org/scholarships/childrens-fund/.

The Council of State Governments (CSG), in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Defense, drafted the Interstate Compact to address the educational challenges transitioning military children experience. Since July 2006, CSG has worked with a variety of federal, state, and local officials as well as national stakeholder organizations representing educational groups and military families to create the new interstate agreement.

Military Child Education Coalition's (MCEC) mission is to ensure inclusive, quality educational experiences for all military children affected by mobility, family separation and transition. MCEC offers numerous resources for parents, information about leadership camps and scholarships, and extensive training for educators about the needs of military-connected students.

Military Kids Connect is an online community offered by the Department of Defense National Center for Telehealth and Technology. The site provides military-connected students access to age-appropriate resources dealing with unique challenges of military life.

Military One Source is a free service provided by the Department of Defense (DoD) to active duty, guard, and reserve service members (regardless of activation status) and their families with comprehensive information on every aspect of military life including deployment, reunion, relationships, grief, spouse employment, and education, parenting and child care, and more. It’s a virtual extension of installation services. Consultants are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

National Military Family Association (NMFA) is a nonprofit organization focusing on issues important to military families, such as comprehensive child care, accessible health care, spouse employment options, great schools, caring communities, a secure retirement and support for widows and widowers.

The Fleet and Family Support Program (FFSP) provides unified, customer-focused, consistent, and efficient FFSP programs and services to support sustained mission and Navy readiness.

Tutor.com is funded by the U.S. Department of Defense and Coast Guard Mutual Assistance that allows eligible students (grades K-12) and service members in U.S. active-duty military families to connect to a live tutor online at any time for one-to-one help with homework, studying, test prep, proofreading, and more at no cost.

The mission of United Through Reading is to connect military families who are separated —for deployment or military assignment—by providing the bonding experience of shared storytime.
