Upper School Campus

Upper School Principal David Intlekofer's background and diverse skill set uniquely prepare him to lead our flagship campus, host to 50 faculty and staff and nearly 400 students, hailing from six surrounding counties. His heart for the Lord and his passion for Christian education are evident to all in his leadership and instructional style.

For Principal Intlekofer, or “Mr. I,” it is personal and perhaps a bit nostalgic to be working at AACS. He graduated from Annapolis Area Christian School in 1999 as a “lifer,” an affectionate term used to describe students who attend our school for all 12 years. Following his undergraduate work at University of Maryland, he returned to his alma mater in 2003 to serve in various teaching and leadership roles, including middle school Bible and language arts teacher, middle school dean, and K-12 director of professional development. In 2013, he moved to California to accept his first principal post at San Jose Christian School. Mr. I later moved back to the East Coast in 2017 with his wife Kristen and son Joel in order to join Eastern Christian School in New Jersey, where he served as the high school principal for five years. 

A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Maryland, Mr. I holds an undergraduate degree in philosophy and classical studies, an MA in educational leadership from Loyola University Maryland, and a Certificate in School Management and Leadership from Harvard. Despite his impressive credentials, he will be the first to share that his greatest asset is his colleagues, so he always tries to “lead with his ears” and learn from the professionals around him. He has a passion for supporting faculty and working collaboratively to ensure student success. His desire for every student at the Upper School is that they will feel a sense of pride and ownership over their education and the school community. 

When he is not at work, Mr. I enjoys hiking, disc golf, and playing hockey with his son. He also loves being an active member of his church and helping out with youth group activities. He and his family live in Severna Park.

Our academic program is comprehensive and includes both a rigorous college prep program and educational support when needed. Over 93 percent of AACS graduates go on to college and the students' SAT scores are consistently above county, state, and national averages. Students are expected and encouraged to do their best.  In addition to the curriculum requirements, each senior is required to complete a Senior Practicum. This is a year-long effort incorporating practical work with local communities and/or organizations in a field of study or interest to the student.  

Service to our community and world continues to be a foundation at our Upper School campus. Some of the organizations our Upper School students have served include the Lutheran Mission Society, Annapolis SPCA, Way Homes, Hope for All, Samaritan Women, Heritage Christian Church, the Annapolis Crisis Pregnancy Center, Sarah's House, Sunrise Assisted Living, Harmony House, the JoAnn DeCesaris Cancer Institute, and many missions throughout the world.

Our graduates continue to tell us the the relationships they develop with faculty and friends while at AACS is at the top of their list of what they love about the school. Our faculty and staff care about what students learn as well as who they become, and mentoring is as important as teaching. There are also many opportunities to make friends with a wide variety of student life events.
