Athletic Sportsmanship Statement
The philosophy of AACS athletics is to develop the spiritual growth of the athlete so that the Lord is in control and directing his/her mind and body. We want AACS athletes to act and think like Jesus Christ, to possess Christ-like character qualities and to express these qualities openly through the medium of athletics. As with all activities we are most interested in building eternal values and therefore, need to stress attitudes and actions as indicated in Gods Word. Athletic opportunities are designed to promote Christian character, fitness, a lifetime interest in sports and school spirit. Athletics are seen as an integral part of the students experiences while attending AACS.
AACS is committed to the highest level of athletic competition within our resources. As athletes, coaches, cheerleaders and spectators, we want to be sure our behavior honors each other and our God. We believe that a spirit of respect for all involved in athletic endeavors players as cooperative competitors, coaches as exhibitors of Christian character, referees as professional arbiters and spectators as encouragers is crucial to the success of our athletic program.
As AACS athletes and fans we should:
- Respect our coaches.
- Be courteous to visiting teams and officials.
- Respect the integrity and judgment of officials, accepting their decisions without question or protest.
- Play hard and to our full potential and ability.
- Realize that the true sportsman does not give up, quarrel, cheat or showboat.
- Encourage teammates and speak positively of them when speaking to others.
- Respect the facilities of host teams school.
- Be modest in victory and gracious in defeat. Do not offer excuses for failures.
